How I Help Families in Elder-Care Crisis Mode

Are you in the midst of an elder-care nightmare? Is your loved one unable to remain at home but unwilling to move to a nursing home or assisted-living facility? Is the stress of the situation making it impossible for you to lead your normal life? Put my 15 years of clinical social work and geriatric care management experience to work for you:

If you live in Western Massachusetts, I can serve as the geriatric care manager for the elder in your life, making sure that the proper medical appointments are made and attended, that a living situation that best suits the client and the client's family will be achieved, and that your own level of overwhelm is lessened or eliminated. I also work as an advocate for hospital patients and with residents of skilled nursing or assisted living facilities, addressing the ongoing needs of my clients.

Long-distance caregivers hire me for consultations where I help them to take stock of caregiving responsibilities or help them through a short-term crisis. I also work with families who are in a state of conflict or crisis finding a workable resolution.

My approach to care management is holistic: issues of health, emotion, and behavior for both client and their family members are considered and weighed. For many clients and family members I often serve as a negotiator or "diplomat" when client's family members or facility staff is at odds with one another.

My training in clinical social work and professional health care and geriatric care management experience inform how I work in situations where elders are experiencing difficult illnesses, behavioral problems, or both. Coaching Caregivers clients can be assured that I always include a plan where optimal health and safety is attained, and that their family members, friends, or involved professionals can rest easy, knowing that the best and most appropriate care is being provided.
